Burrill Pines Campground and Conference Centre is a welcoming space dedicated to Christian fellowship and community. Established in 1956 by The Bush Missionary Society, it’s been a home for church groups, family retreats, and faith-based programs along the South Coast. Burrill Pines brings people together to grow spiritually and connect in a natural, peaceful setting.

Burrill Pines came to me hoping to update their website. It was an outdated site that wasn’t responsive and that they couldn’t edit. Digging deeper into their organisation and their needs, we decided to expand the scope of the project from just a website to include a new logo suite, brand elements, photography, copywriting, merchandise and updated collateral. All these elements supported the website but also flowed out across the business, from uniforms, motel room keyrings and social media.

Taking Old & Making it New

Reviewing previous websites, signage, brochures and booklets, we wanted to honour the history and location of Burrill Pines through the brand elements.

Logo Suite

Illustrative elements (pine tree, tent and waves) represent setting and activities. Serif typeface highlights history. Badge logo is a nod to scout badges.

Colour Palette

Selected from the surroundings to connect us to the ocean, rocks and bush.

Typography

Headings link to the serif typeface in the logo. Supporting sans serif typeface balances the heading to ensure a modern feel, particularly on the website.

Photography

Extensive photography to show all the features of the accommodation options and the fun options. Edited to highlight the green colours and to add warmth.

Information Packs

An update to previous collateral. Downloadable PDFs for each accommodation option gives a convenient way for staff to reply to email enquiries. Information is extensive but clear and digestible. New photography and brand elements link seamlessly to website branding.

Website

Now for the main event! Logo, colours, fonts, photos were all added to the website. Copy was rewritten to be simpler. Navigation was reorganised to highlight accommodation options. Created in Squarespace for responsiveness perks and easy editing once the project was complete.

No more small screen struggles

75% of visitors to the site are using their phones. The new responsive site means it’s easy to navigate and easy to see. Plus no more awkward zooming!

A new home (page)

BEFORE: text heavy, unclear page links, minimal images and a “This video is unavailable” window…

AFTER: content with images and buttons dividing it up to help with pacing.

Fresh layouts for accommodation options

BEFORE: all accommodation options on the one page with only a couple dot points differentiating their features and a separate photo gallery page with low res images…

AFTER: camping, motel and conference centre all have their own page with list of features, photo gallery, reviews and helpful links.

Consolidating all the extra stuff

Cleaning up the navigation by highlighting the accommodation options and moving all the other pages under the “about” tab. These pages include the “Friends of Burrill” blog, FAQs, map, conditions of entry, things to do, etc. They’re all nice to have but keeping them more separate makes it easier for someone visiting the site to jump straight to booking their accommodation.

Reflection from the Burrill Pines team.

“Thank you for all your efforts in creating a new digital ‘Pines’. This has been so exciting and fun and we are really enjoying the designs and so thankful to update stuff.”
